Quasar's Bad Tooth
September 20th 2024
Recently, Megan’s cat, Quasar needed some dental work. Megan brought him to work with her one day for the procedure.
We started off with a physical exam and bloodwork. This helped establish that Quasar was healthy enough to undergo a general anesthetic and dental.
Quasar was put under a general anesthetic to allow our team to get a good look inside his mouth. His teeth were cleaned and probed. Then, dental x-rays were done to evaluate the roots of the teeth and the bones of his jaw.
Unfortunately, Quasar had something called a Resorptive Lesion on one of his premolar teeth. This tooth was slowly dissolving in a process that we understand to be quite painful for cats. This tooth had to be extracted.
After the tooth extraction, Quasar recovered well from the anesthetic. His mouth healed beautifully within a few days. And he’s not missing his painful tooth at all!
